Noel is a stunning 12-year-old Belgian draft horse. She was an unexpected gift to Sophie’s Home in December 2020. We arrived at the kill pen to pick up Pepper, the pregnant donkey, as a Christmas gift for a friend and the friend took one look at Noel and purchased her on the spot.

From what we know, Noel was used as farm machinery and we are not sure why she ended up at the kill pen. Noel came to us with club hooves and severe emotional trauma. She stood in the backyard for a week, staring out and not letting anyone touch her. With a good sound trim from our farrier, she stands straight, walks perfectly, and her hooves are perfect and round.

With time, patience, and love, Noel came around and is the sweetest horse that now greets you in the field loving her face rubbed. She has taken on the role of Pasture Beauty with her sleek look, sorrel and blonde body, and flowing blonde mane and tail.

Noel and Pepper bonded on the trailer ride home and are inseparable. Noel hollers for Pepper if she is not in eyesight. This unique pair is fun to watch, share food, and love treats! They graze and sleep together and are always close by. Noel is more dependent on Pepper but don’t tell her that.
