Ghost
Ghost is a handsome 6-year-old dapple gray BLM (Bureau of Land Management) Wild Mustang rescued from a kill pen in January 2021. Sadly, the BLM rounds up hundreds of mustangs from the wild using helicopters and four-wheelers. They are herded into holding pens, forced into trailers, and removed from the only life they have ever known. Once they are secured, they travel to BLM pens, are forced into shoots, vaccinated, gelded, and turned out into holding pens. Many will spend the rest of their lives in those pens.
Ghost is our lucky little 14 ½ hand wonder. In short, the person in charge of him and 18 others, being paid by the BLM to graze them on his land, tried to sell off all of them, without having his ownership Certificate from the BLM. Needless to say, he is now awaiting trial for fraud and theft. Ghost and three others were the only ones he could legally sell, so he did.
Ghost is perfectly healthy and completely a wild horse, not broken, and afraid of humans. (which is no surprise after the way they have treated him). He is a beautiful mover with his long grey tail and mane flowing as he runs the pasture. He has made significant strides in trusting us here at Sophie’s Home. He has bonded with Thomas and spends his time in the pasture and learning from him. We have hopes of Ghost coming around to trust us and be trained to ride, but it will be a long and patient process. We can wait, we have time.
