Meet the Founders
Sgt. Jennifer Armstrong, US Army, Retd.
Director
Jenn Armstrong is a retired disabled veteran and founder of Sophie’s Home. She served as a Sergeant in the United States Army.
Her love of draft horses began at the age of 6. Jenn spent her childhood driving and riding Belgians and Percherons. She has always had a love for mustangs and wanted to be part of preserving their heritage.
Steven Armstrong
Director
Steve Armstrong was honorably discharged from the US Army as a Corporal in 1997, after spending his enlistment in Belgium. He went on to work as an Accounting Manager for Tempress Products and currently serves as a Vice President at Chase Bank.
Steve and Jenn rescued their first horse together, Liberty, unfortunately losing her to colic. A few years later, they rescued two more horses, and the idea of starting a rescue organization was born.
Brooke Corcoran Alexander
Director
Brooke Alexander is a horse enthusiast and co-founder of Sophie’s Home. She began her love for horses in childhood taking lessons at Capricorn Riding Academy. She was determined to save and purchased her first horse, Topper, in middle school.
Brooke is a mother and HR Leader that rekindled her passion for horses after meeting Jenn and Scout. Scout captured her heart with his funny & endearing personality. Today she is smitten with gentle giants, enjoys riding again, and learning Liberty training.
Who knew it all started with a horse and a carrot!
Bob Briola
Director
With no prior experience around horses, except for a scary ride on the world's tallest horse at the age of eleven, Bob Briola first became interested in horses when he met Jennifer's horse Liberty, who was peeing on his lawn when they met.
A retired manufacturing executive turned professional woodworker, Bob has become fascinated with these gentle giants and has a special place in his heart for the donkey crew.
